Enjoy a Great Winter Weekend |
|
It’s one of our most precious secrets - the splendor and beauty of winter in our charming mountain community - with the occasional glitter of snow on a crisp starlit eve. The leaves that once created a lush envelope of green now lay as a welcoming carpet on the forest floor - revealing views hidden during the summer.
Our 250 waterfalls take on an entirely different beauty in the winter! From a brisk morning hike in one of our national forests to outstanding cultural events, Winter is alive with opportunities for you and your family. In Transylvania, you’ll find an incredible range of outdoor activities. There are hundreds of miles of trails and roads to explore in Pisgah National Forest, Gorges State Park and DuPont State Forest. You can hike, cycle, golf, fish, canoe, kayak, cross-country ski and horseback. |

Three Day Winter Adventures |
|
Day One: Drive along the 77-mile Forest Heritage National Scenic Byway – but be sure to bundle up as you wind your way over elevations of more than 4,000 feet above sea level. Marvel at how sheets of ice cling to the exposed granite faces of mountains. Stop by the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education where you’ll find all sorts of interactive exhibits and workshops for adults and children.
Day Two: Transylvania County is home to some of the most talented artists in the region. Spend your morning taking in the arts and crafts at local galleries. Shop for treasures in our many antique stores and boutiques. Nowhere will you find a more inviting lunch than in the many restaurants of Transylvania County. Cap your day with a performance at the Porter Center for Performing Arts.
Day Three: Put on some warm socks and shoes and explore trails in search of frozen waterfalls and Carolina Hemlocks decorated with Mother Nature’s glittering icicles. For those with a heartier appetite, cross-country ski on the Parkway. |
