Arts and crafts enrich lives in Transylvania County, providing income for local artists and offering artworks to the world. Painters, wood carvers, glass workers, basket weavers, quilt makers, metalsmiths and other crafters use both traditional and contemporary techniques to produce unique art. Their work can be found at several arts and crafts shows throughout the year.

#7 Arts
Number 7 Arts, a Fine Arts & Crafts Cooperative, showcases some of the fine art of Transylvania County artists. The Cooperative grew out of the Transylvania County Arts Council whose mission is "to celebrate and nurture the creative spirit in Transylvania County." The Cooperative acknowledges the strong cultural heritage of this county, the value of art in the community and the identity of downtown as a cultural center.

A cooperative is a business formed by a group of people for their mutual benefit to market their "products" more effectively and more economically than they can do on their own. More than 20 artists make up the #7 Cooperative. Their works include American folk art, basketry, clay, fibers, jewelry, metal, oil, watercolor, acrylics, wood and mixed media.

Transylvania County Handcrafters' Guild

The Transylvania County Handcrafters' Guild includes over 50 crafters producing works in woodwork, baskets, ceramics, clocks, jewelry, wearable art, macrame rugs, stained glass, knitting, crochet, wood-turned items, dolls, puppets, quilts, pottery, silk, etc.

The Guild will host two craft shows this summer, at Brevard College, under the big tent. The show dates will be Friday and Saturday, June 7 and 8; Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9 and 10, both from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information, call (828) 862-8554.
Transylvania Art Guild

The Transylvania Art Guild Show and Sale on the Courthouse Lawn will be offered June 22, July 20, and Aug. 10, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in Brevard. The rain dates are June 29, July 27 and Aug. 17. For more information, call (828) 877-5009.



Hemlocks Studio
Hemlocks Studio, a retreat for visual artists, is located on U.S. 276 in Cedar Mountain. It offers "innovative art study for small groups and individuals."
