Transylvania County Historical Society |
The Transylvania County Historical Society was formed in 1987 to save
the Allison-Deaver House, the oldest standing frame house in Western
North Carolina, from destruction. Through a lot of hard work, and the
support of the community, they were successful in their efforts.
TCHS is now committed to maintaining and preserving the Allison-Deaver
House to be part of a Transylvania County Museum. |

Arts and crafts enrich lives in Transylvania County, providing income for local artists and offering artworks to the world. Painters, wood carvers, glass workers, basket weavers, quilt makers, metalsmiths and other crafters use both traditional and contemporary techniques to produce unique art. Their work can be found at several arts and crafts shows throughout the year. Scenic 276 South Arts & Crafts Corridor: One of the best concentrations of crafters lies along US 276 between Brevard and the South Carolina line. Travel along US 276 and discover a variety of artist studios. Stop by to see them working in their studios to purchase beautiful pottery, glass and other arts and crafts. A brochure is available at our Visitor’s Center. (Pictured below: Glass Feather Studios and Gardens, one of the studios on the Crafter's Corridor.)

Countless people visit Transylvania County each year to admire the
serene majesty of Looking Glass Rock. However, the tranquil granite
faces of Transylvania's mountains witness more excitement and adventure
in a single day than most of us see in a lifetime, because they are
irresistible to a rare breed of sports enthusiast: rock climbers.
