Nestled below the Blue Ridge Parkway near Mount Pisgah is a unique history site that whole family can enjoy - the Cradle of Forestry in America. The Cradle is a place of people, nature history and the future. The story of the birth of forestry in America is told here through exhibits, guided tours along historic sites, and interpretive programs.
  The Forest Discovery Center at the Cradle of Forestry in America, situated within Pisgah National Forest, has a number of educational programs for children and adults. It offers the chance to learn about forestry practices, the first forestry school in America and about the natural world. They have a trout pond, a 1915 Climax logging locomotive and two paved hiking trails.  Special events throughout the season are full of celebrations of our forest heritage and of how forests are managed today. From an Appalachian Spring Celebration to Forest Festival Day, opportunities abound to explore the forest, wetlands and to learn new outdoor skills.
